DIRECTOR
Eric Martz received his BA in Cultural Anthropology and Psychology from
the University of Rochester, NY. Martz then went on to get his Master’s
Degree in Visual Anthropology from the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology
at the University of Manchester, UK. During this time he made Songs from
the Streets a 30 min. documentary on the lives of two struggling New Orleans
street musicians. After graduating Martz moved to NYC and has worked as
an associate producer and editor in television documentaries for such
companies as: TLC, VH1, CBS, Cronkite Productions, Danish Broadcasting
Corp., and Irish Television.
PRODUCER
Zachary Mortensen has been a producer in NYC for eight years, working
in narrative, music video and commercial production as well as producing
many successful short films. For two years Mortensen was the Director
of Production at Caipirinha Productions, where he supervised the production
and distribution of the critically acclaimed feature Modulations. He recently
produced the feature documentary Hell House which premiered at the Toronto
International Film Festival 2001 and will be released theatrically in
fall 2002. Mortensen is an associate producer on the documentary Stoked:
The Rise and Fall of Gator by Helen Stickler and produced the award winning
documentary feature Breath Control: The History of the Human Beat Box
by Joey Garfield.
SUPERVISING PRODUCER
Selina Lewis Davidson is director of documentary programming at Mixed
Greens. She has produced documentary film and television in L.A. and New
York for more than ten years. Most notably, Selina produced the feature
documentary Family Name, directed by Macky Alston, which premiered in
January 1997 at the Sundance Film Festival and won the Freedom of Expression
Award, given to the documentary most committed to pressing social concerns.
The film was also nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Historical Programming
after it aired nationally on PBS in 1998 as the kick-off for the Television
Race Initiative's special series of documentaries for POV/American Documentary.
At Mixed Greens, Selina has produced and co-produced several documentaries,
including Sarah Price’s Caesar’s Park (premiered at the Pioneer
Theater in New York City in April 2002); George Ratliff’s Hell House
(in theaters in fall 2002); Hannah Weyer’s Escuela (POV, 2002);
Macky Alston’s Questioning Faith (CinemaxReel Life, 2002); and Bryan
Gunnar Cole’s Boomtown (POV, 2002). She has also just completed
the first round of documentaries that are part of the Mixed Greens "New
Directors Program."
SUPERVISING PRODUCER
Nancy Roth worked in feature film and commercial production for over 10
years – primarily as a location scout and manager – where
she ultimately found her passion for documentary film. Most notably, Nancy
co-produced Greener Grass: Cuba, Baseball and the United States, which
was produced in association with ITVS, had its national broadcast premiere
on PBS in June, 2000 and received a Banff Rockie Award in 2001. Since
then, she joined Mixed Greens and co-produced Worst Possible Illusion:
The Curiosity Cabinet of Vik Muniz, which had its premiere screening in
New York at the Independents Night Series at Lincoln Center in August
2002, and she has produced over 25 documentary shorts for their website.
Nancy was the supervising producer for Mixed Greens on two recently completed
documentaries, Slumming It: Myth & Culture on the Bowery and 156 Rivington.
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
As founder of Mixed Greens, Paige West combines a background in finance
with a life-long love of contemporary art. She is determined to revolutionize
the way we see and learn about emerging art. She started Mixed Greens
in order to encourage others to support young visual artists and documentary
filmmakers.
DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Jawad Metni recently received an MA in cinema studies from New York University.
He has shot numerous documentaries, including Hell House, Plutonium Circus,
You’re Gonna Miss Me, and segments for Split Screen on the Independent
Film Channel. Metni is currently making a documentary on depleted uranium.
EDITOR
Victoria Toth has worked in film and theatre for 12 years in both Europe
and the States. She spent six years in Prague where she directed theatre
and short films and co-produced a feature, Mandragora by Polish director,
Victor Grodecki. about male prostitution in Eastern Europe. Since moving
to New York in 1998 she has been jumping from one side of the Atlantic
to the other, cutting documentary films. Recent credits include, in the
US: Brooklyn North Homicide Squad for Hybrid Films, Inc., In Black and
White: The Life and Work of Gordon Parks for Robert Levi Films. In the
UK, Love Me Tender and Mum, I'm a Muslim for Real Life Productions.
COMPOSER
T. (Todd) Griffin is a songwriter, and sonic adventurer living in Brooklyn,
New York. His two records on the Shiny Little record label, Light in the
Aisles (2001) and Tortuga (1999) combine hushed country and spaghetti-western
inflected narratives with an intimate junk-store electronic atmosphere
that he dubs "porch-techno". Both albums received wide critical
acclaim and college radio play. In addition to his solo recordings, Griffin
has created music for film and theater, including soundtrack work for
Jem Cohen (tracks for Amber City and the Chain installation) and Pete
Sillen (the short documentary Alice and her Little Yellow House). In 2000
he collaborated with Cohen on an evening of live music and super-8 projection
called 8-ball, Corner Pocket. He has been commissioned twice by HERE theater
to create full-length scores for darkly imagistic dance pieces, and by
Ann Bogart’s SITI Company to write songs for their internationally
touring production Bobrauchenbergamerica. In the summer of 2002, he recorded
a song with Vic Chesnutt to be included on the DVD of Jem Cohen and Pete
Sillen’s acclaimed documentary, Benjamin Smoke.Mixed Greens produces
documentary films and sells original, contemporary artwork. Since its
founding in 1999, Mixed Greens has produced the work of many talented
directors on a variety of topics, including the arts. These titles include
Sarah Price’s Caesar’s Park, George Ratliff’s Hell House,
