Joey Garfield - Biography

Joey Garfield was recently named to the 2008 Saatchi & Saatchi Cannes New Directors' Showcase for his RJD2 music video "Work It Out". It features Bill Shannon, a performer with a rare hip disability who relies on crutches to not only dance but to walk. It was also nominated for an MTV Woodie award, was Pitchfork Media's top 50 video's of 2007 and gave Joey the honor of receiving Swerve's Emerging Director award. His feature length documentary "BREATH CONTROL: THE HISTORY OF THE HUMAN BEAT BOX" has won several awards and continues to screen all over the world. Joey also directed "STYLE WARS REVISITED" the 20 year anniversary of the seminal graffiti film STYLE WARS. Both Breath Control and Style Wars Revisited had the privilege of screening at Tribeca's 1st and 2nd annual Film Festival's respectively. Other documentary works of note are the urban artist profile series "THE RUN UP" made in collaboration with Upper Playground and BEAUTIFUL LOSER'S where he is the Director of Special Forces for providing personal footage, shooting interstitial segments, and consulting. Beautiful Losers premiered at this year's South By Southwest Film Festival.

For several years Joey wrote, performed, and directed the comedy group The Bert Fershners which aired their TV Special and several promo's on Comedy Central.

Look closely and you may recognize him as the Octopus Monster in The Beastie Boys music video "Intergalactic" or in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
