Perez Hilton Likes Us

Adam's new video for frequent collaborators Five O'Clock Heroes was released on MySpace this week. The video is for the Heroes' new single "Who" and features British super model Agyness Deyn and quickly became one of the Top 10 most viewed videos of the week.

We also got a shout out from Perez Hilton, who had great things to say about Miss Deyn's first venture into the music world. You can read the post here or watch a nice Quicktime on Adam's reel.

The Premiere of Bjork's "Wanderlust" In 3D

Last week was a busy one, as we screened the Wanderlust video 3 consecutive nights, for very enthusiastic crowds.

Wednesday, March 12th, was a private event, hosted by Jeffrey Deitch at his new Long Island City space. Afterwards, we hosted a party at Mark's favorite bar in Williamsburg with free Reyka vodka and great music from DJ Pumpkin Patch. It's no surprise the party went until 3 in the morning. Thursday's event was open to the public, and we had a such a large turnout, we had to turn people away at the door.

Friday night, was a very special event at the Museum of Natural History, hosted by our good friend Greg Dinkins of the New York Stereoscopic Society. There were tons of great questions, and those there for the tech side of things definitely got what they came for. There are some great pictures from the event here.

The video won't be available on the web until April 1st, so you've still got to be patient. In the meantime, here is a photo gallery we put together of images from the events. Photos are from The Gothamist, The New York Sun, Subterranean (who needs to check their facts), Flux, and Stash.

2008 Happenings

There's a lot to report on, as things have started rolling in the new year. First off, we welcome Ramon Bloomberg back to the team for Music Video Representation in the US. Check out his work and send us music for him.

We also have two new videos posted. The first was directed by Joey and his good friend Joseph Patel. It is for Domino's DJ duo The Count and Sinden. It features Chicago locals Kid Sister and Flosstradamus.

The second video was directed by Keven and his long time DP, Lee Daniels. It was shot at an abandoned airfield in Austin after a rainstorm. The music is by frequent Ghost Robot collaborators, The New Year who have a new album expected out later this year.

Co-directing credits give us a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Thin Crust Vs. Deep Dish

Mark has decided to go to Chicago to settle this debate, once in for all. While he is there, he will also be shooting a video for The Count & Sinden, featuring Kid Sister and Flosstradamus. The video will be directed by Joey Garfield, along with his friend Joseph Patel. Stay tuned for the verdict (and the video!).

"The Box" Gets Its Day

Elliot's handcrafted fantasy for Suretone's Eastern Conference Champions was released just before the holiday's on AOL's Spinner Blog. Described by drummer Greg Lyons as, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' meets A-ha", each frame of the video was delicately drawn by hand. For his efforts, the video received a spot in the 'Boards Screening Room.

Year End List

As 2007 comes to a close, year end lists have been popping up all over the place. Rather then point out every list we’ve got a video on (Pitchfork , Stereogum, Music For Ants), we decided to make our own list, celebrating our first full year of business. In no particular order, here are the Top Eight Reasons why Ghost Robot is here to stay. (more after the jump)

The band is on Andy Chase's label Unfiltered Records , and the lead singer, Tim, was featured in the Brookville video Adam shot a year or so ago. See, we're all one big family!

You can see it here, or at Stereogum, where it premiered Tuesday.

Introducing Office

Ghost Robot is pleased to announce the formation of its Adult Film Division, our first release being Adam's video for the Chicago band Office. The video stars classic porn stars such as Tom Byron, Randy West, Peter North, and Melanie Moore. Keep track of it over at Youtube.

Adam In Paris

Adam just returned from Paris, with a new little video in hand. While there sorting out the details for his upcoming wedding, he shot a video with his fiance, Audrey, for a local band she manages, called Die Romantik.

Channeling some French New Wave influences and the sights around the City of Light, Adam shot and edited this video himself. You can see it here.

Look out for Adam's upcoming videos for two other bands we love, Office and The Postmarks.

academy.jpg

Ghost Robot @ Academy

So, it is official. Ghost Robot has signed on with Academy Films for music video and commercial representation in the UK and Europe.

We've been working with their music video department for the past few weeks trying to get the ball rolling and can't wait to get our first project with them off the ground. Liz Kessler and Chris Massey of Academy will be representing everyone on our roster, save for Encyclopedia Pictura. Any inquiries for EP will be handled by Ghost Robot directly.

We are super excited to be a part of Academy's tradition of creative work and look forward to growing and expanding under their tutelage. Look for news about Ghost Robot's US Representation in the next few months...

We Span Cities

For the second time this year, one of Ghost Robot's directors has been chosen by 'Boards Magazine as one of ten featured creatives for their Creative Workshop Series. This time, the city is Chicago and the director is Joey Garfield, who is still feeling the burn from his red-hot Rjd2 promo. You can read about it here.

Some Big News

It is our pleasure to announce that Encyclopedia Pictura has been tapped to direct the second video off Bjork's latest album "Volta". The video will be for the song "Wanderlust" and will be a Stereoscopic Mongolian Passion Play, due in mid-October.

7014_workitout.jpg

Two New Videos

If you haven't noticed, Joey and Keven each have a killer new video on their reel. Joey snuck in a little Rjd2 video featuring Bill "Crutch" Shannon and Keven's aforementioned Spoon video is posted, as well. Two great videos, for two great bands couldn't make us any happier. Also, Elliot has a video for the band Eastern Confernce Champions due any day now.

P.S. "Work It Out" has gotten nearly 200,000 hits on Youtube since being featured last week.

Ghost Robot Goes To Austin

Ghost Robot has always had a presence in Austin and the State of Texas. Tommy shot both "A Scanner Darkly" and "Waking Life" there with Austin film pioneer, Richard Linklater (he is also in "Slackers") and Keven shot "You're Gonna Miss Me" there, but up until last week, we had yet to shoot a video in the "Live Music Capitol of the World".

The chance to work with the seminal Austin band, Spoon, seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so, so Mark and Keven headed to Austin where they shot with DP Lee Daniel at a local recording studio. The video is a One-er, so post should be minimal. Hopefully you'll see it here soon.

sp_nedoverend-finishline.jpg

Setting All Kinds of Records

We've all been pretty busy, in general, but noone tops the prolificacy (it's a word) of Adam, who managed to shoot 5 videos in just over two months. Finally, they are all done and while only two are posted on our site right now, you can see them all on his personal page. I'll get them up soon, I promise.

To catch you up to speed, Adam shot videos for: Fountains of Wayne, As Tall As Lions, Five O'Clock Heroes, Bouncing Souls, and The Films. There was a great essay on FOW on Obtusity, our favorite essay blog, as well as write-ups in New York Magazine, Fader, Comedy Central, Stereogum, and MTV Overdrive. It was on Fuse's Oven Fresh and VH1. What's next for Adam? A well deserved break and a trip to Paris.

P.S. Thanks to Adam and our other directors, we are now working on our 16th video of 2007.

Nuptial News

The Ghost Robot crew recently got together and celebrated the wedding of Executive Producer Zacharay Mortensen. Check out our stylish duds and some pictures of the reception, held at the historic Loews Theater in Jersey City. It was a great night and I sure once Zach gets back from his honeymoon, we'll have a lot more photos to post. Don't fret, even though we're gearing up for another wedding early this fall, there's still one eligible bachelor in the office.

Talent Is Emerging In San Francisco

'Boards Magazine just released an online feature charting the top ten emerging talents from San Francisco. Included in the ten is Ghost Robot's own, Encyclopedia Pictura. Production Updates

2007 is turning out to be the year of the Robot. Last week we cranked out videos number 10 & 11 on the year. To catch everyone up, here's where we are at.

Elliot is finishing up his Holy Hail video. It's taken a while, but making trippy effects from the '80s is an unwielding process. He also just shot a video for recent Encyclopedia Pictura collaborators Seventeen Evergreen. You can see some photos from set here.

We still can't do anything to slow Adam down. Since we last posted about Fountains of Wayne, Adam has shot two more videos; One for The Five O'Clock Heroes and one for The Films. The Fountains of Wayne video should make it's way out there sometime next week, and we are also overdue on posting his videos for The Bouncing Souls and As Tall As Lions. He is taking a well deserved vacation next week.

While we are still waiting to learn exactly what Encyclopedia Pictura's next video extravaganza will be, they've stayed busy doing some album artwork for Seventeen Evergreen and will begin preproduction on a short called "Mountain Yoga", which is being funded by Warp Films.

We've grown a lot in the past year and are very eager to start exploring all the other opportunities that are out there. We'll have some new reels together in the next few weeks, as well so drop us a line if you need one.

Adam and Mark just returned from a weekend at the shore, where they shot a video for veteren punk rockers The Bouncing Souls. Packing up their vans with equipment and a tiny crew, the video was shot in Asbury Park, NJ - home of the Stone Pony, Asbury Lanes, and of course...The Boss. Check back in a week or so to see the finished video.

Holy H__l!

That's Holy Hail for all you people out there with dirty mouths and we just shot a video for them. These guys are awesome and good friends of ours, so when they needed a video for their second single "Born Of A Star" we jumped on the opportunity to collaborate.

Elliot directed and will be reprising some of the techniques he used on his "Staring At The Sun" video. However, be on the look out for something new and fresh with lots of dancing, shiny clothes, and tripped out effects.

Check out their Myspace page.

Keven Releases Robert Belfour Video

Keven has emerged from the backwoods of Mississippi with a new video in his pocket. On their way to a film festival in Florida, Keven and longtime collaborator, DP Lee Daniel, stopped by the house of Fat Possum bluesman, Robert Belfour, to shoot a video for Robert's latest album, "Pushin My Luck".

Keven and Lee used subtle exposure changes to slowly reveal the world around Belfour. The finished product is not only a music video, but a short film documenting the art of one of the country's many unknown blues performers. Good job, Keven.

Where's Mark Been?

Yes, we admit it, Mark has been double dipping. But when friends call you to work on projects you think are really great, how can you say no?

First, Mark production managed a video for Pharoahe Monch, directed by Paul Minor from Streetgang Films and produced by our friend Jonathan Lia.

Directly after that, he produced a video for the Rapture, directed by Ben Dickinson for our other friends, Emily and Nick, at Greencard Pictures.

And then, he teamed up with Jonathan again, to shoot a video for the British band Fields, directed by Director/DP extraordanaire Shawn Kim.
